 This is my plan on media ecology.

Explain what you think is the most significant change in the media in recent years.

What is AI?

AI otherwise known as Artificial Intelligence is a software which simulates human intelligence in a computer

Deepfakes - in March 2022, a video portraying President Volodymyr Zelensky calling his citizens to surrender to Russia was broadcasted in Ukraine24 - one of their national TV channels. The video was later on confirmed to be fake by the news channel who stated that it was in fact Russian hackers who broadcasted the video. This is a sign of the future weaponization of information. AI is a tool integral to the creation of deepfakes and as AI progresses, it will soon be able to produce more realistic images that could deceive vast amounts of the population. We would soon not be able to tell what is real or fake, we wouldn’t know what news to believe or not, pushing us to live the rest of our lives with scepticism. According to hypodermic needle theory, people may believe everything that the media tells them, This may be more true as this is on national television where people are conditioned to believe whatever they say as true. An oppositional reading of this would be to not give up the fighting, this may be held by Ukrainians or those that are media literate. In an attempt to make Ukrainian audiences more media literate, the Ukrainian Intelligence Agency has released a video guiding people on the dangers of deep fakes

Chatbots - With AI simulating human intelligence, they are able to simulate some sort of sentience like that of humans. By learning our speech patterns, they have learnt to perceive, respond and create conversations like that of a human. This has resulted in AI replacing humans in many sectors. One example was the creation of Kupid AI. A website which allows its users to interact with eligible bachelorettes created by AI. All interactions, profiles and voices are generated by AI They target those that are incapable of finding partners in reality. They provide a more instant sort of romantic diversion (uses and gratification’s theory) than that of traditional dating websites which leads to people preferring Kupid AI over traditional dating. As a result people are more chronically online. This issue is not endemic to a certain population but a threat to the entire planet as with the increase in access to the internet over time means people are more exposed to this AI. Kupid AI has the capability to target large variations of people as their AI can be adjusted to suit the different tastes of men across the planet.

More efficient with AI - Since AI was introduced, there are a lot of tools that can be used to help human work like Chat GPT. Chat GPT released on November 30, 2022 is an AI language model which allows you to give more accurate answers in a short time. In the globalisation era, more people are relying on technology. They use ChatGpt to give ideas about a certain topic or certain roles. For example, they could ask ChatGPT to make scripts for film production or certain topics for presentation. Another version of chat GPT is Chat GPT- 4 that is able to generalise and write some simple scripts. Chat GPT has potential to change the way we interact with technology, people are more attached to technology and they become more individual. People prefer having relations with an AI because AIs are designed to be friendly as humans. 

Mini Project : Lip Sync Video

 Our teacher tell us to make lip sync video from I want it that way from backstreet boys.

My expectation:

We could get more than 3 different camera angle and our act is expressive.

Worry:
Things that need to be worry are especially the use of camera to get perfect camera angle and movement when acting out the scene.

Reflection

I help Sanjaya edit the video using his laptop and for the app I use it's IMovie. I put the scene all and synchronise it and Sanjaya add an effect to that scene. It went well but not as I expected, theres some changes on the story board when record before the chorus part "Don't wanna hear you say". Actually before the chorus part "I never wanna hear you say" I want gather more people like around 4 but instead it was change to " Don't wanna hear you say" part, I can only find 1 person. I'm being the artist to act on "Don't wanna hear you say" until " I want it that way" part before the 3rd chorus and Sanjaya in the verse part. I act like I'm really hopeless and get splash by water until I wet. On the verse I recorded Sanjaya using tracking technique. I record and follow Sanjaya while he act, so that the audience will focus more into Sanjaya. For the me and my friend part (Deva), Sanjaya record it using high angle. Camera look down on the subject from the top. Record Deva alone which give sense like Deva want to be alone. Things that need to be improve is the lip sync some part its not synchronise well, for editing part need to more precise where to put the scene correctly, and act be more expressive. For next time, I think I need to record more so that I don't lack of video.

PostModernism in SheHulk

Postmodernism is where we can no longer differentiate between reality and representation. Timeline is from pre-modernism, modernism, and postmodernism. In postmodernism there is no ultimate authority. 

One postmodernism example is use is SheHulk. 

There are some postmodern features in SheHulk. One of them is loss of reality (surreal). SheHulk exit her world and come to the reality. SheHulk came from fiction location and come to real location which give meaning to audiences that superhero is real and audiences will believe that. Audiences having difficulty in differentiate between simulation and reality because now anything is not real can be made. Like fiction location, the producer often use green screen to make it happen. SheHulk can be consider as parody due to imitating the same SheHulk in 1978. To keep audiences track of SheHulk in different season and episode. Before SheHulk come into reality, there is part where it show different character from marvel which consider as intertextuality. 

Postmodernism I chose are Nat geo Wild and A Life on Our Planet

Post modernism is a rejection of modernism. In post modernism, audience having difficulty in differentiate between simulation and reality (hyper reality) which one of Boudrillard big idea. The hyper reality where we can no longer differentiate between reality and simulation and heightened reality it's the opposite of hyper reality, where we as audience can still distinguish which one is real and artificial. Documentary that consider as heightened reality is Nat Geo Wild. It's a documentary that show wild animal life. We were shown real animal, real location they don't simulate it, and everything else is real. They don't interview people, instead most of the time doing voice over on it. For hyper reality documentary is from A Life on Our Planet by David Attenborough. Some elements are difficult to determine whether it's real or fake which the shot of the book. Whether it's real book or they simulate it we as audience don't know and tree falling whether it do on purpose or they faking it.

The Vaccines - Wetsuit

The target audiences are for teenager around 20 years old. Filter being use is warm and artist in pictures are from young ages which is very nostalgic. The good thing about this music video is it fit very well for nostalgia,  the producer put pictures, the filter, look like an old music video. Bad thing is there is not much an action what the artist do. 

Jacob Collier - All I Need

All I Need release in 2020 composed by Jacob Collier. Target audiences for this type of genre is mostly for teenager due the music background is jazzy and it has the element of pop genre. The music video is featuring an artist (Mahalia, Ty Dolla $ign) which one way to attract more audiences. For the visualisation, it's a bit crowded. 

Joe Bonamassa - Notches 

This particular song is a rock blues genre and an audience can recognise because it has the vintage element to it. From the music video we can see vintage objects such as vehicle, old version of TV. Old man become one of the actor to fulfil the vintage elements and target audiences are for above teenagers. There is a scene where the other actor pee outside which not recommended for kids to watch. The color pallets like grey, brown, and soft tone. Shaking camera effect which create sense of tension to audiences. 

When the guitar solo part, the actor pretend himself play the guitar. 

Cory Wong  - Golden 

One way the producer attract more audiences by featuring an artist. In this song, it feat. Cody Fry. Main actor wear golden outfit and other actor wear blue outfit, purpose of this is to give audiences meaning that they both are opponents.  It's quite unique song, because it have the jazz elements and rock genre especially when the guitar solo part, the guitar sound dirty (has distortion) which in all rock genre done that. Convention of jazz music is usually relate with soft lighting and chill vibes. For clothing, they wear different color of clothes which make it colorful. Target audiences are from teenagers and above. There is a scene where it contain violence when they both fighting (the golden and blue).  It's not suitable for kids to watch because kids may imitate the action happen. Thing that I like from this video is the mise-en-scene, the lighting and place chosen.

Jacob Collier - Time Alone With You ft. Daniel Caesar

This song set in 2 different time, in day and night. Part where it set on day time has more chill vibes, the producer put palm tree to make the setting look like in the beach, first artist (Jacob Collier) wearing beach outfit with colourful color and other artist (Daniel Caesar) wear plain outfit (top from bottom white) which relate with their personality. When the night time it's more crowded, one of the artist outfit keep the same he still chill but the other artist wear outfit differently and more excited. 

Branding

This is one of the album cover from Jacob Collier "Djesse Vol.4". They put a lot of stuff on the album cover with plenty of colours to look it more colourful, theres plenty of star and cloud and covered with green glass to look it like on space. Target audience for teenager and above because the red hole which can be scary for kids.

Week 1

- Brief introduction about the project

- Research our own music video and the one that teacher show it.

Week 2 

- Continuing big and small research (4 small and 1 big) 

- Look some music videos that mr show 

Week 3 

- Finishing research music videos and start research for branding

- Decide on song. Currently my group have 2 option (Time Alone from Jacob Collier and Notches from Joe Bonamassa)

Problem: Not sure on song that my group choose.

Solution: We have 2 options Time Alone and Notches. Need to consider about the props and setting where need it to be record. If our group want more simpler we go with Time Alone. 

To-Do: Finish statement of intent before friday.

Week 4

- Our group made a mood board 

- Start concept development (actor and location for where we want to filmed in).

 

Problem: Having difficulty in choosing location and an action to do it for intro part (instrument part), and posting statement intent.

Solution: For location our group have 3 locations for now (GWK, Beach but don't know yet, and Lapangan renon). For intro part we try to have 8 different shot of one actor walk / run and other actor suddenly appear. For statement of intent, copy paste from docs and Youtube videos.

To-Do: Take picture of the location, finish statement intent.

Week 5

- I did the moodboard reflection

- Concept idea (where, when to film, what are the outfit).

Problem:

Lighting especially in night time. 

Solution:

Since were going to record in night time we need an extra light to support the camera. Plan b would be we change location not in renon park. 

To do list: 

Finding one more star to film.

Week 6

Problem

Background is crowded when recording it at night time.  

Solution:
We find other side to record. Way of recording is would be find a place that is more quiet in other side when sitting down.  

To do list: 

Need to add more extra picture of the location for night time and I need to take picture as well in the day time. 

Week 7

Problem

Find an alternative place and way to record because now is rainy season. 

Solution

For an alternative way we would record it indoor (don't know the place yet) and bring an umbrella just in case if it's rain for day and night time. 

To do list:

Record my self how I act for performer screen test. 

Semester 2 

Week 1

- Teacher (Mr. Nick) give me feedback about my blog. On what to add more, what to change.

- Changing layout the blog to make the examiner easier to read

- Doing the location assessment and risk assessment to help when filming music video. 

Problem

Today changing blog layout. 

Solution

Mr. Nick give us an instruction on how to change the blog layout. 

To do list:

- Fix everything on blog base on feedback that my teacher (Mr. Nick) give. 

- Finish location assessment and risk assessment + with the reflection.

Week 2

- Our group did filming schedule for shooting on where it's going to be film, how it's gonna work, the star involve.

Problem

Week 3

- Our group do research of artist / band for branding ideas in social media. It's mix up between local and international artists / band.

- In the beginning of class, we do discussion about branding for both platform (digipack and social media).

Problem 

Our group don't know yet on what to included (content) in social media.

Solution

We do research bunch of artist, mostly it's jazz pop genre so it fit to our branding and screenshot it upload to blog.

- Saturday 27 January filming music video

Week 4

- We recorded music video on Saturday 27 January and this week I've been editing it.

- Start working on the self reflection.

Problem

During shooting, problem that I face is I need to record it by myself for the first 2 hours waiting for Sanjaya to come. My handy cam battery die.

Solution

I record it by myself for the first 2 hours from 10 - 12, I ask another star to help.

Adding more footage.

Week 5

- I'm doing editing while Sanjaya do digipak and social media. So far we get 03:52 minutes footage.

Problem

On the music video, I need to record some footage for transition when lips yncing outside at the stair (emergency exit) in school.

Solution

We record some footage in the stair (emergency exit) and field.

To do list

- Record my friend (Luna) as the girl that we're talking about in the music video during CNY holiday.

Week 6

- Continue editing last week progress

Problem

Luna can't record as the extra star

Solution

I might record myself alone if I don't get an extra star (girl that we're talking about on the scene).

Theory of Spectacle

 Guy Debord 

Theory of Spectacle 1967

Spectacle was his form for the mass media and consumerism as a whole. Mass media was a spectacle designed to distract.

Characteristic of Post Modernism in Family Guy owned by Disney S19 E15: 

- Fragmented Narrative --> Grenade explosion part

- Loss of reality (surreal) --> when the scorpio get inside to one of the character and it suddenly change that character behaviour and eyes become purely white. 

- Bricolage --> siren sound 

Counter culture --> anti mainstream 

Commodification of culture--> where art and culture become commodities to be consumed rather than authentic expression of human creativity.

Spectacle --> where images and representation of reality take precedence over authentic experiences. tThis lead to a superficial and alienating culture.
