Critical self reflection

Our documentary is about food and culture and inspired from BuzzFeed one of the videos is Worth It released in 2016. Our member consists me, Sanjaya, Elang. Elang will be the cameraman.

Q1. How do your products represent social groups or issues?

The food documentary is reviewing Balinese food which is Nasi Campur in 3 different restaurants and different price range from the lowest to expensive one. We decide review Nasi Campur because one of the most popular foods that Balinese peoples often eat it in daily life and tourisms when they travel to Bali. At the end, we (myself and Sanjaya) battle to find which one is the best from 3 different location and price range. Common stereotypes that our group found about Balinese food is spicier than western food. It has a lot of chilies because it’s have been a habit for local people in Bali. Documentary will start with establishing shot showing beach in Bali so that whoever watch it know where is it been film.

Media Regulation Discussion

Here are some debate in media regulation

1. Should media companies be in charge of regulating their own content, or should the government have a bigger role in this, and why?

The companies media should be in charge in regulating their own content.

2. How does government regulation affect what we see and hear in the media? Can too much regulation stifle creativity and free speech, or is it necessary for protecting the public?

Media that regulated by the government can protecting the public. Like in Chinese government regulation the Doiyen (Tiktok Chinese version) they limit access to use the app.

3. Do social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter need more rules and oversight, or should they be left to regulate themselves? How might this impact our online experiences?

Media platform like Facebook and Twitter, they should be regulate themselves. Based on US Law Section 230 the government allow media platform to moderate content without losing their immunity.

4. Should school teach students media literacy? How might this help us better navigate the media we consume. and is it the responsibility of educators or individuals themselves?

School should teach students media literacy.

Third Party Dominion Vs Fox

The US election start in November 2020 Trump vs Biden. Trump announce he win the election at 4 a.m and to stop counting the votes. Trump hold conference in wrong place Fourseason Landscaping, Philadephia, it supposed to in Fourseason hotel.

How effective is third party regulation?

The third party can be effective for proving evidence whether Trump win the election or not. Trump lawyer Sydney Powell and Rudi Giulliani didn't tell he is losing. Held conference to announce and lie in media.

Why didn't US Law: Section 230 apply?

Should fox news be held accountable?

What are issues surrounding Freedom of Speech?

Doiyen Vs Tiktok

Doiyen is China tiktok version released in 2016 and owned by ByteDance. Overall users 500 millions

daily. Only Chinese language.

Tiktok is the western version. Released to US in 2018. 1 billion users daily and available in 40 languages.

What are the difficulties of regulating media in the digital age?

For Doiyen is very strict compare to tiktok. The app have the limit for the children under 14 years old and children are allowed to watch specific videos like an educational videos. It the opposite for western version , children are allowed to watch any kind of videos. There is a restriction but it's an optional. In western version they following the US law 230 regulation. Government don't held responsible for the content on tiktok . They only allow to moderate the content for avoiding any sensitive content. Content creator might get banned when they do sexual behaviour, copyright, and prostitution.
